Doctors of Oriental Medicine diagnose imbalance in a person’s body by employing four basic examinations.  The first is inspection of one’s spirit, physical form and bearing, face and complexion, and tongue. Next, listening to one’s voice, and the sound of one’s breathing as well as smelling any odors emanating from one’s body or excretions. Inquiry about one’s signs, symptoms, medical history, and course of disease, follow. And fourth is palpation of various areas of the body and especially the pulse at the both wrists. Using a combination of these four examinations, signs, symptoms, tongue, and pulse diagnosis, the physician can determine the pattern of disharmony and basic treatment protocol.

Based on the historic writings of Zhang Jie-bin, questioning will consist of the following information:

Body Temperature both subjective and objective

Perspiration /Condition of skin

Head / Body pain

Stools / Micturition

Appetite / Thirst

Breathing / Chest information

Hearing / Seeing

Fatigue / Sleep

Medical History / Course of present disease

Menses / Parturition

If patients are aware of the line of questioning, they can become more aware of their own situation and can more objectively convey the necessary information to the doctor.

We recommend that you follow these suggestions to help maximize the benefits of your treatment.
